Editorial Policy
The Herald Feed exists to explain rugby and cricket accurately and clearly. This policy describes how our articles are planned, written, checked and maintained.
How we choose topics
We prioritise questions that fans genuinely ask and that remain relevant beyond a single weekend: how the laws work, how competitions are structured, what each position does, how formats differ and why certain moments and players matter in the history of the game. We avoid content that depends on day-to-day results, transfers or injury news, and we do not publish betting, gambling or odds content.
Fact-checking
Every article is fact-checked before publication. We verify laws and playing conditions against primary sources such as World Rugby’s Laws of the Game, rugby league governing bodies, the MCC Laws of Cricket and ICC playing conditions. Records, results, dates and statistics are checked against official competition sites and established reference sources. When a figure can change over time, we state the point in time it refers to, for example “as of the 2025–26 season” or “through 2025”.
If we cannot verify a claim, we leave it out. We do not invent quotes, statistics, dates or personal experiences.
Sources
Each article ends with a list of the sources we consulted, linked so that readers can check them. We favour governing bodies, official competition and club websites, rulebooks and reputable sports outlets.
Use of AI tools
We use AI tools to assist with research organisation and drafting. AI output is never published as-is: every article is reviewed, fact-checked against the sources listed and edited by our team before it goes live. Responsibility for everything we publish rests with us.
Updates and corrections
Laws and competition formats change. We review articles when significant changes are announced and update them where needed. If you find an error, please email [email protected] with the article link and, if possible, a source. We will check it promptly, correct verified errors and, where a correction changes the meaning of an article, note the change in the article.
Sponsored content and advertising
Our editorial content is independent. If we publish sponsored content, it is always clearly labelled “Sponsored” at the top of the article, and any sponsored links carry the rel=”sponsored” attribute. Advertisers and sponsors have no influence over our other articles.
Bylines
Articles are published under the pen name Callum Hartley, which represents our small independent editorial team. You can read more on our about page.
